I’m planning on visiting Rumney with a friend the Labor Day weekend. How helpful or necessary is the rakkup guide for the area? My partner and I are looking to get on mostly high 5.10s through low 5.12a and would love suggestions from anyone. Happy to meet up and trade catches also.
Mountain Project is pretty comprehensive. Download the photos offline of the sub-areas you'll be visiting and you'll be all set.

You could also buy the guidebook, if only to give a little back. Action photos of several MP folk inside!

Also, there will be a lot of people there Labor Day weekend. So if you are even for a moment confused about where a route is, there will be many locals nearby to point you in the right direction.

If I may chime in on guidebook choices, I co-authored the GunksApp digital guide for Rumney. I feel like having photo diagrams for every route is one of the biggest advantages for our guide. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback.
However you decide to navigate the area I hope you have a blast and good luck avoiding the crowds.
As someone who wanders around Rumney without a guide book or smart phone, I have heard that Lee's. Gunks app is very good, but you can get by with mt proj.
2nd the idea of crowd sourcing as an easy option, that weekend will be full, the classics at every crag will have a group and long line of dibs called for the next climb etc ... just show up and ppl will spray you down/share their guidebook/generally be excited to chat with a new face while they wait to get on whatever theyre group is looking at.
So many good upper 10's across the entire hillside you really don't need to plan things out. Mostly it will come down to shade/sun and time of day concerns. Just walk around and talk to people about which routes are dope and why. I would suggest Orange Crush and New Wave (they are right next to each other) as the place to be for KILLER routes.
