ExpertVoice: A Heads Up
|
Hey Folks, Wanted to give a quick word of warning, just got banned from ExpertVoice and had two things cited:
Want to be clear, I'm not complaining here because I understand it for the second part, it's just unfortunate, but the first point I want to call out. I know many people (myself included) have some gear of the opposite sex that work better for them - if that's the case, or something else (including identifying as a gender that doesn't match the needs you have for gear based on your biological sex, just liking the design of the other gender, etc.) I wouldn't make the purchase on your EV account as that will get you flagged for fraud and your account banned. They may be flexible on it - I reached out and protested the ban and had a permanent ban changed to a "6 month suspension, please reach back out in 6 months and we can review your account again" (though I'm sure that review will be denied after this post), but I wouldn't bank on it. |

Valuable information. Thanks for sharing. Sorry that you got banned, hopefully you can get re-instated in 6 months. |

Tal M wrote: This is unfortunate as I also have purchased women's shoes on occasion. Some men's shoes have gone "American" in sizing leaving me looking for a more slimming look. More unfortunate is the gender bias of ExpertVoice and their lack of wokeful policy. Have you started a petition? |

I’m simply amazed that they found your comment on MP and nailed you for that. I always wondered how that would be enforced… |

Dropped them due to their surveillance. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2019/03/harvard-professor-says-surveillance-capitalism-is-undermining-democracy/ |

Wow, that's an impressively dumb policy. Doubly so considering that the there is no validation that the contents or even cited poster is correct. To whit: Tal M wrote: Note that Tal M. DID NOT WRITE THAT. I just edited the quote to make it say whatever I wanted. |

So basically what you’re saying is if I have an expert voice account, which I don’t, and I want a pair of women’s shoes because I like the style and fit, I’d be banned from expert voice? Expert voice, if your reading, go fuck yourself. Make your policy more 2021. Haven’t you heard? We’re doing away with gendered clothing in the future. Humans wear what they want and we don’t give a shit in the future. It’s gonna be great! We’re all going to feel so fucking good about ourselves. Cut out that policy from the past and think about what’s coming

I get them not wanting you to act as a psuedo wholesaler and limiting your SKUs is easy but dang, I own 6 pairs of women's climbing shoes. They fit my foot better. Red may make you faster but the pink makes you climb 107.53523% harder too. I like the brands that just limit your purchase amounts. It's a bad look for some brands that are otherwise very woke. Looking at you Patagonia. |

(I was given the temporary boot from Patagonia Deals some years ago after buying women's thermal leggings before it was common for men to have access to 3/4 length base layers. It's still hard in some brands to be 5'5 125 lbs when i end up in the same size "small" my 6'2 climbing partner wears) |

I think if you order a men’s shoe in 43 and a women’s shoe in 43, it is unlikely to get you flagged/suspended; I imagine that it’s when you order a men’s shoe in 45 and a women’s shoe in 39 that eyebrows get raised. I also suspect that it is the brands’ decision (some of the brands specifically say it is OK to order for friends and family, or waive their normal restrictions for a limited time, etc). So it is probably more appropriate to direct any policy questions to the brands rather than EV. |

This is something I'd like to see more of. Give me my standard size, maybe plus or minus one for different use cases, and drop the genders. Many companies have switched to low volume/high volume anyways. I agree companies 100% should be allowed to ban abusers that are clearly using the system. Part of the weirdness to me is that the whole point of pro deals is to get gear into experts hands for personalized marketing. The marketing budgets of your average outdoor brand is nothing so a lot of sales come from word of mouth. If you're only allowed to get an ill fitting product you won't speak positively of it. I was super vocal about the Solution bring the most overrated climbing product I'd ever used until i got to try the women's version. It's still kinda meh to me since it's not my style but I've convinced half a dozen friends to buy those shoes now that i could assess them better and fit that recommendation to their needs. I never would have done that if i only tried the men's version that was extremely poorly fitting for my mangled feet and as such climbed like clunky $200 rental shoes. |

I don't get it. What does ExpertVoice do? I looked at their website and they classify retail service workers as experts. I find that in activities like climbing, the consumers often know more than the people doing the selling. Is this a real thing? |

Pro discount one-stop-shop for various brands' gear to industry insiders, for personal use only. The basic idea: "we can get you pro discounts on all this gear from these various brands, but you have to show you're eligible, and you have to agree to purchase for only yourself and you can't publicly talk about the prices you paid. The core asks are not onerous at all. And the on-going lesson we all have to learn and relearn is you can't un-say things on the internet. Comes around goes around, our own words bite us in the butt. Reworded: unless you're eligible for pro discounts this entire topic is off route for you, or me. |

Cherokee Nunes wrote: But the problematic bit here is that they're getting hauled up for violating a contract, when the act in question occurred well before the contract in question, the OP deleted the post before Expert Voice ever saw it, and the OP has no power to edit other people's posts. What exactly was the appropriate course of action? Are you proposing a world where we never discuss companies we might someday work for, for fear of revealing some yet-to-be-defined-let-alone-revealed industry secret? I'm not saying this is worth suing over, but every single NDA I've ever signed explicitly clarifies that I am only barred from disclosing things I learned *after* they were disclosed to me. Anything I learned, or inferred, or guessed, or made up on my own prior to that are specifically and explicitly left out in EVERY SINGLE NDA I HAVE EVER SIGNED. I agree, those terms aren't onerous for folks who have read and accepted the contract. But if the expectation is that I, random internet punter that I am, honor their contractual terms *right now* if I ever want the chance to use their platform in the future, they need to give me something in return *right now*. It's called consideration, and it's core to making any contract valid. |

Between shipping and sales tax Expert Voice is hardly ever cheaper and sometimes more expensive. |
