Hey good morning everyone,

I've got a good shot at moving to lander for June-August of 2022, but I'm having trouble finding housing options (at least that are reasonably priced). Anybody know where to look for short term rentals? Thanks!

Lander has no housing. Lander has jobs paying $7/hr, however, so it is worth trying to find housing. Seems like a common refrain everywhere: "I'm having trouble finding housing options" (at least that are reasonably priced). Housing is simply not being built for anyone at the lower end of the economic spectrum, be it apartments or homes. In 2020, only 65,000 new entry-level homes were built in the country, while the average levels in the 1970s and 1990s were 418,000 and 207,000 per year. And housing prices regularly exceed 30% of income for those people who can't get into an entry-level home-buying opportunity.

As an aside, I have never understood the desire to move to Lander for climbing or anything else. Except retirement (before the rise in real estate prices). Nothing wrong with the people, or public lands, but opportunities and housing for young people are like the Popo Agie and disappearing into a void.

There is always the option of staying at one of the RV places if you can withstand Tent/RV/Van camping without shade in a rather dingy RV 'resort'. Personally, rather stay in the Shoshone NF for as long as possible before doing that (showers at the swimming pool but the days/hours may not accommodate your needs). Short-term rentals on AIRbnb/VRBO will feel pricey for almost any property if you're on a budget. Private short-term rentals pop up on MP every now and then. Someone may have a room to rent if you place a housing-wanted ad in the Lander paper come May 2022, or here on MP.

I had luck this summer finding affordable short term housing in Lander through several Fremont County/Lander area Facebook rental groups. However, I started looking several months before I wanted to be there and didn’t have anything pan out until two weeks before my job here started.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
