Best Non-Locking Carabiner for Clove Hitch removal?
|
So far, the best carabiner nose for slipping off a locked down clove hitch, that ive found, is the Petzl Spirit, and the Edelrid Pure. The Pure is not quite as good, but pretty decent. Anyone like another biner for this in particular? I use and remove a lot of heavily weighted clove hitches, and a carabiner that works well with this would save me some time. Anything out there better than the Spirit for this? |

Dyno, why are your cloves so tight? |
|
If you plan to weight a clove heavily, put a biner in it. That way you can grab onto it as pull to easily loosen. |

l always had fine luck just working the clinched clove back and forth around the biner until it loosened to remove. Have taken mighty plenty of good falls on cloves, on cheap OP lockers and this always worked fine. |

Any nut tool with an integrated carabiner. |

The Sm'D line of "offset D" carabiners is nice for this. There's a nonlocking version called the "Sm'D Wall" petzl.com/US/en/Sport/Carab… Relatively flat and smooth basket without a rope-running groove like you see on Spirit etc. --- there's just something magic about the shape and size. Can't explain it. Give 'er a shot. |
