I see the reservation system is in place but the earliest time slot available is 8:00am. Is the Mt. Evans Road like RMNP where you can get there before the station is manned and get in free? Or is it that I need a reservation in place for 8-10 and then I can drive in early? I couldn't find much info other than on the reviews of the reservation site, which mostly say reserve for 8-10, print the ticket, and put it on the dash. However, a few say you can just drive in.
Any first-hand experiences to share before I risk being turned away?
As per a phone conversation with a Mount Evans representative last week, the policy for early arrivals dictates obtaining a parking pass for the first time slot of the day (8-10a) and displaying it in the windshield while parked. Summit Lake parking will cost $7 ($5 entry + $2 BS fee), the true top parking is $15 (plus $2 BS fee?).
I haven’t attempted bypassing the permit and cannot comment regarding the likelihood of actually getting ticketed.
