Grivel G12 Crampon Pin Sizing Issue

Have a pair of beater G12s I use that have recently broken on me. Wanted to post some pictures here to see if anyone has experienced the same issue.

Usually pressing down this metal bracket will push a metal peg into a hole and the bracket will stay down and secure allowing you to connect the front half of the crampon and size it according to the boot. However, when I press down the metal bracket and push the peg into the hole, it doesn't stay. I've looked over the other foot to see if there is some sort of mechanism that holds the metal bracket or applies enough pressure to the peg while it's in the hole to keep it there, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Does anyone have insight into what's going on or how to fix this issue? There was no sudden force or contact that caused this to happen. I pulled them out of the bag on a trip and they were just in this state.

Any insights are great -- thanks!

Buy a new heel piece or get creative with a bolt or welder. We've lost a couple crampons this way too.

Edit. I don't think it magically ended up like that. It had to have been over extended (ie bent too far) whether by accident or on purpose.

Edit 2. Once it's secure to your boot the pressure might keep it in place. This would not be my preferred method for use on any big mountain.

Same issue with same crampons. Rehashing old thread. Any updates on how to fix?

No updates here, Sean. I ended up just upgrading crampons.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
