Gunks Offwidths
|
Hi I'm going to the Gunks later this summer and I really like climbing offwidths. I'm also lazy and didn't want to sort through the hundreds of routes at the Gunks to find offwidth routes so I thought I'd ask here. I'm looking for hand-hand or hand-fist sized offwidths (inverted ones are welcome!) ideally near some easier climbs as my friends that will be there are beginner climbers but we can hike from one place to another if needs be. Any help would be great thanks! |

The Gunks has lots of cracks, they're just all horizontal ;) If you're coming here for crack climbing you'll likely be disappointed. That said, this thread covers a good selection of the available OWs mountainproject.com/forum/t… |

Sometimes need #3 and another #2; rarely anything wide and MP notes will tell you. Once you get into the 10+ range micro cams useful. Tricams can be helpful because of the pebbly nature of many cracks, but obvious drawbacks to remove. 60 m rope works well; many regulars prefer a 70m for linking options. Weirdos like myself sometimes use an 80m to skip rap stations. |

P1 yellow ridge in the nears, P1 belly roll in the trapps. I’ll edit to add others if I can think of them. As mentioned above, mostly horizontals here. |

Baby p1 has a bit of offwidth at a reasonable grade. It’s a nice climb. Big Chimney is a really fun and secure chimney climb, if you’re looking for that style as well. |

ventre de bouef has a 5.10+ direct OW start, it's pretty short but pure |
