A. I’m a 47.5 street shoe in Sportiva and don’t believe in uncomfortable shoe but I wear a 45 TC… also Dylan’s advice above has helped many of my friends

It really helps to completely loosen (almost undo) the lowest few sections of laces, and wear a plastic bag on your foot for a break in gym session. For reference I wear about 3 sizes down from my approach shoes for trying hard, 2.5 down for multi pitch. The first day or two outside is a bit painful but they are weapons once broken in! Sitting on the couch with them on (plastic bag first) here and there helps too.

Why don't  you cut the just just one cut where your thumb is in the photo. Peel the rand back and then glue it back. But  don't stretch it when you glue it back. If you really care how it looks you can put a patch over the hole.

I have the same problem.  It doesn't bother me, but it is very annoying because most times I heel hook my shoe comes off my foot.

I just watched this video yesterday on modifying shoes

Because it doesn’t work as well as the way I do it. Mine don’t bother me if I’m cragging or bouldering but I mainly focus on long multipitch routes. If I’m on route all day especially for multiple days in a row it starts causing some serious issues.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
