Hot weather climbing pants

What's pants equivalent of a sun hoody?  Looking for light strechy climbing pants that breath as well as possible and dry fast.  Strongly prefer synthetics to cotton here.

I'm about a 30x32, but my thighs are big so I usually have choose between a waist that sags or pants that are skin tight in the thighs.  Zions work great but are too heavy in the summer.  My wife has these ridiculous  things from Patagonia (Rock Crops) that -- while stupid looking and too short -- are sorta close.

The best option locally seems to be the patagonia quandary.  The weight is about right, the stretch is great, but the fit is a on the slim side so I'm worried they won't breathe very well.

Other options people throw around seem to be:

  • Patagonia Quandary, RPS or Venga
  • OR Ferrosi
  • What else?

They breathe a lot better than the Patagonia synthetic climbing pants.

Interesting.  Always tend towards synthetics because they seem to be more durable, but they seem like about the right idea...

The Brise jogger from Foehn may be what you're looking for. A bit pricey but they're essentially all I wear these days, climbing or otherwise.

Arc'teryx Gamma LTs. Dry quickly, versatile, and light.

Arc pants are typically designed for more muscular thighs. I'm a 28 or so waist and wear Men's XS; they're my go-to multipitch pant in the warmer months.

My favorites are the NW Alpine Volo and the Arc’teryx Sabreo.

I second the Volo pants. Very light.

When it's too hot to climb in my Zions, we chase shade or head to higher elevations!

Another recommendation on the NW Alpine Volo mentioned above, I find them almost perfect. If they had more than just the thigh pockets I probably would wear them casually all the time too.

An elastic waist band? Does it get bunched up and leave marks on your waist? What about with your harness or backpack waist belt cinched over it? I normally prefer belt loops without any elastic to avoid such things (even a small amount on the sides I don't care for) but, curious, nonetheless.

I've had no issues with bunching under a harness or a pack, but YMMV depending on exact fit and personal preference.

I've really liked the Kuhl Renegade pants, so much so I bought a second pair.

Non-fleece joggers from Old Navy.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
