El Peñol de Guatapé (Piedra del Peñol) - Guide Book?
|
Planning to climb Piedra del Peñol soon and was looking for a guide book. So far I haven’t come across one. Is anyone aware if there is a published book for the area?

I climbed there and we hired a guide. We had to cross onto private property and the farmer knew the guides, and apparently all was cool. To my understanding information is not published because of these access issues. The guides are cheap and are cool people. I would say hire a guide for a least a day. You'll get to hang out with some nice guys and support some local climbers. |

"Looking for a guide with all the gear? Reach out to Sebastian at +57 320-414-8491. Let him know Spanish Adventure sent you." This is assuming use of WhatsApp, not sure if you've spent time in Latin America and are familiar with that fact. It's been a few years but I'm pretty sure Sebastian is who I messaged. I reckon of you hire them for a day they'll be able to give you all the beta you're looking for. Good luck. Edit: Looks like better information has been provided below |

You can contact Sergio to take you climbing, +57 (312) 734-5576. He lives right at the base of the rock- it’s the house with the outdoor bouldering wall. He developed a bunch of the routes there |

Thank you! I’ve never been to Latin America before and the prospect of climbing there has me pretty exciting. And looks like I’ll be getting a guide for the day as well. I’ll be reaching out to the recommendations here. Appreciate the contacts! |

If you’re in Antioquia you can also climb in Abejorral. There’s a great hostel called La Peña de Abejorral. It’s granite sport climbing, and there’s some bolted multi pitch too. The approach is 20 minutes uphill, and the views are insane! |

http://www.monodedo.com/md%20colombia/mdcolombia/dondeEscalar/topos/peniol.htm I climbed there a few years back. It is stout climbing but there are some good routes. Mono Dedos is the South American Topo source for crags in Ecuador and Colombia. Just dive in a bit and translate the pages to find the info you want. |
