How do they fit? Do they run small, large, right on the money? I'm thinking of getting a pair. Also if you've worn the and Sportiva's TX series and think one is better than the other I'd like to hear why.
I am interested in comparisons to the TX4 too, I assume the Mescalito would be stiffer to much stiffer. TX2-4s are too soft in the sole for bouldery approaches and crampons for me, and I want a GTX approach shoe.
Yeah, everything i've seen indicates they're discontinued. I wear a 47 in La Sportiva Trango Tech's, and a 46.5 mescalito knit. 46.5 is my regular street shoe size, and they feel spot on. They're pretty stiff for a shoe, but not as stiff as the 3/4 shank trango tech's. I don't own crampons with a manual binding in the back, so I haven't tried that, but they're probably almost maybe stiff enough.
I would say the Mescalito runs a tad small. Mine might have shrunk a bit as time went on (is that possible?).
They are discontinued. I went looking to but the next bigger size and am unable to. It seems Scarpa is not currently offering a mid approach shoe. I kinda bummed about that.
The Salewa MTN Trainer Lite Mid might be another option?
I liked the Mescalito but I found it actually not as wide as my TX3. I would say similar sizing or maybe slightly smaller. Still decently wide forefoot.
"better" is subjective - depends what your looking to do in them?
There is a spanish company that makes low cut approach shoes with a rear crampon welt but I forget the name.....those definitely seemed interesting though
