Facebook rocks.

I hate these painted rocks so much! I chuck them far or keep them and acid wash them clean. End of rant enjoy your day! |

Are they bringing back the Pet Rock? If so, I’d say thats one those things that happened in the 80’s and should stay in the 80’s. |

Kevin Mokracekwrote: People have been painting cobbles with cutesie stuff and leaving them around for others to find. It's supposed to be a day brightener for others. Youth group type stuff. It's something to do, and low stress low performance art activity. That said, acrylic paints don't belong in any sort of natural settings. Urban, sure, tucked away in nooks and crannies. We use rocks in our house as doorstops, when the windows are open. Only three doors, only one rock decorated. I still smile at this, even though it's been laying around for a decade...or two?? Lol! Stand on your head, I guess. No idea why google has to "fix" what don't need fixing, but the irony amuses me! H. |

I've found a couple of these rocks while hiking, and always packed them out like other trash you find at the crag. It seems like there's been an uptick in the amount of people leaving them though, maybe because of the pandemic? Some pictures from Castle Rock State Park below (not mine, spotted on IG a couple days ago): (P.S. I wonder how you guys feel about geocaches) |

Old lady Hwrote: I support home rocks! And I understand the idea about the rocks and I support people getting outside there just has to be a better way. If I see another Seahawks jersey painted rock on the approach I might vomit. |

My kids love finding these rocks. It really makes their day. The excitement and joy it brings them is very heartwarming. If these rocks effect your life in such a negative way maybe you should go hug your parents. Maybe try remember what life was like before bitterness and negativity took over. |

ADAM GRANTwrote: Nah. They are trash just like anything else people leave behind. Someone leaving this makes me just as annoyed as someone leaving a plastic bag around. |

Eyesores, plain and simple. Right up there with trail "ducks" -- but at least they can be knocked down. Pack it in, pack it out and Leave No Trace. |

ADAM GRANTwrote: I do appreciate that it gets people out and enjoying the outdoors, which is great. Like most things, when rare it is not a huge deal. But others see and want to participate and it gets out of control. There are parks around me where at at times I'd see dozens while on a run. At one there is a ~50 rock "snake" with a sign posted to "grow the snake". And they are encouragement to "decorate" the outdoors. I've seen faces on trees show up. Ribbons and Christmas decorations. Garden gnomes. All sorts of stuff left out to rot or blow away. And in other spots people start painting the boulders and trees too. |

I’m really trying to get worked up and upset over this but I just don’t have it in me. I keep thinking there are much bigger things to piss me of than a few painted rocks. Actually there are way more things to be thankful for than not like sticky rubber and Totems. |

Levi Xwrote: With this logic the trail you are walking on is trash. Left by your footprints. Better stay home from now on you wouldn’t want to desecrate the great outdoors with your personal impact. |

MojoMonkeywrote: I can understand this. In my neck of the woods they are not this popular and haven’t been popular for a few years now. Finding one was a novelty. I’m sure like any fad they will fade in your area as well. |

It's always interesting to hear about how other languages make diminutive forms. We all know that if you paint on a big rock on public land it's called "graffiti." I would have thought if you painted on a small rock on public land it would be called "graffitino," or something. But apparently it's called "cute." |

ADAM GRANTwrote: My kids help get rid of them. Because they are learning and understanding nature. Not some weird way to make people feel happy. It’s a social media experiment not a heart warming gesture. |
