What is camping here like? Has anyone who camped here recently give some input as to what the parking and water situation is?

You talking about this camping? It's closed due to COVID. Regardless, most free/dispersed camping does not provide drinking water.

The "places to stay" section on the NRG page has many good resources, though most cost something. If I pay to stay I really like the AAC campground (meet fellow climber, water, showers, communal firewood), but I usually just roll into the walmart lot after dark. I think the NRG national park just opened some free campsites. Might be worth looking up.

Actually, I’m staying here at the free campground by the dam right now and it’s open. It has pit toilets, flush toilets, a sink in the bathroom, and potable water. I’ve been here for a week and even over the nice sunny weekend there were still sites available. They’re a little muddy but they have campfire rings and picnic benches. Hope that helps!

Gauley Tailwaters campground is open - I was there just a couple of days ago.

Very convenient to the climbing at summersville and overall a great campground - esp since it’s free

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
