Living in Lexington?

I'm curious.

I've been having the discussion lately about everywhere being super expensive. I joked with my wife that we should just move to Kentucky.

Then we googled some stuff.

Homes I can afford. I could even keep and rent my place in Colorado.

Schools are decently rated. Better than CO. We have 2 kids younger than kindergarten now, so this matters.

The sport climbing is better than anything I've seen out west. No Indian Creek and no Longs Peak, but I've had my fill for a while.

Cycling clubs in town, for the days I don't climb.

It rains. Years of killing crops in my garden, summers of brown skies and irritated eyes/lungs has soured Rado a little.

I have questions about some stuff though.

There's certainly work for me and my wife. Does anyone know how nurses get paid there compared to CO?

Will my dog/kids/me get Lyme disease?

How is the summer? Sounds brutal but so is Colorado unless you're over 10,000'

What's the 4 hour window from Lexington? I know the Red and New fit, what else?

Any good mountain biking minutes from town? How about gravel?

Is it a shithole like Colorado Springs or is it nice, like Colorado Springs?

Politically, I'm bluer than the pope's balls, how's that?

Just an exploratory post at this point but answers are appreciated.

Lexington is a solid place to live.

Seneca, Chattanooga and the Linville Gorge are all about a 4-5 hour drive,

politics are pretty progressive if you're in the city, in the sticks it can be crazy but thats everywhere in america

Summers are hot and brutally humid however I find climbing at the red just as fun, slightly more challenging. on the flip side there is usually only a month or so where you can't climb all winter. This year we had several random days in the 60s early on and I've gone out almost every Christmas eve. Two years ago It was 74 on December 28th.

The Red is a 1 hour drive and isn't just sport climbing

I am a Tick magnet so always wear off/deet and check well, I've never been bit but find them regularly.

Good post.   Never been to Lexington, but my experience with The South is nothing but positive.  Resurgent small cities with a mellow vibe and incredible climbing.   Beautiful, lush trees and roaring rivers.

Lexington, like about any city even in the southeast, is quite liberal. It'd be cool if you and your wifey moved to KY and helped vote out McConnell and Paul.

That said, real estate is cray cray everywhere right now. My sister in law is trying to buy a house in the Lex area and keeps getting sniped by Air Bnbr's with deep wallets.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
