Toe curl in Skwamas?
|
Just curious for Skwama wearers - when you first bought them how curled were your toes? Immobile, foot became a ball, or a slight bent? And what is the curl like now after they are softened? Thanks! |

Skwamas stretch way out, in general if you can get your foot in they're not too tight once broken in. My curent pair went from super painful and barely able to get them on with the plastic to pretty comfy but still with a full toe curl, perfect gym/training shoe. For reference my approach shoe is a 45 and I wear 41.5 skwamas. |

Similar experience here. I'm generally a 43.5/44 in Sportiva approach shoes and wear a 39.5 in Skwamas. The first five or so pitches are pretty brutal (definitely use the plastic), but they end up quite comfortable. |

They stretch but generally I think people overstate how quickly it happens. Took months for me to go from painful to less so to quite comfortable. |

Schuyler Null wrote: I suppose comfortable is a relative term for a performance shoe. I generally take them off between attempts on a boulder and tend to pop my heels out while getting lowered from a pitch. I'm not spending extra time in them for fun, and most people aren't downsizing 4.5 sizes from their approach shoes, but I have weird flat feet that tend to make initially comfy shoes feel unusably baggy by the end of their life. I'll start breaking them in by massaging/kneading the shoe before each session. Using the plastic wrap to put them on is a must. First step is to walk around in them just for a bit. Next is standing on some giant footholds on really easy boulders. Then boulders closer to limit. Being able to rotate with an older pair helps a lot. Doing a fast warmup pitch in them and then being able to set them aside for the remainder of the day also helps keep morale high. It's usually after a handful of sessions where I've been able to wear them for a full warmup pitch that I stop telling myself I need to upsize and start to love them again. |

I wear size 42,5/43 in approach/mountain boots and size 40 Skwama's. I only use them for overhanging boulders/climbs. My big toe is more or less straight vertical inside the shoe after about a year of moderate use. As said, I don't use them on anything but overhang. |

I went down 2 sizes, 43 Mtn, 41 Skwama. Great shoe and love how they work, particularly gym/bouldering. Snug and not particularly comfy when new...they take some time to break in. Once they do I’d rate them very tight but not painful. I have a narrow flat foot which may help on sizing. |

I wear La sportiva approach in 43 and 39 skwama, 39.5 solution. Yup tight fit first, now it’s amazing, gym bouldering go-to. Skwama stretches a lot |
