Lightweight approach shoes suggestions for narrow feet.
|
Just curious if there are some options I am not aware of... I have low volume, narrow feet. I am looking for some light weight approach shoes to carry on route for multi-pitch descents. I currently have Evolv Cruiser Classics that work well. I with they had a touch more support but are low profile to carry on route. The newer (current) Cruiser Classics have been redesigned and are too wide! My current plan is a pair of TX2's. (I have had several pairs of Tx3 and Tx4's). Anything else out there that's low profile and narrow with sticky rubber?? Thanks! |

The TX2’s are great. Use them a lot. The newer TX Guide is also got great reviews from everyone I’ve spoken to. |

TX2s are narrower than TX3/4. |

Ya'll sizing up 1/2 size from TX3/4 to the TX2's?? I'm a 43.5 in TX3 and was thinking 44.0 in the TX2. |

Back Diamond Technicians and are fairly narrow and fit my low volume feet well |

Was really impressed with the tx guide when I tried them on, felt much better for climbing in than any of the tx series, the flexible low profile rand on the front will be way better in cracks. If you don't care about climbing performance tx2. |

Tx guides are super low volume. I wear ladies TX 3s but the men's guides are more narrow. Think they actually screwed up making the tx guides so narrow but I love them. |

Guides are awesome. Can't recommend enough if you are interested in performance. |

Is anyone able to compare the climbing performance and hike-ability of the TX Guides to past experience with the TX3/4 series? Looking at the Guides they don't seem like they'd be all that comfortable for a big day out in the mtns? I'd love some real world feedback comparing the Guides to the TX3/4. And also sizing of Guides vs TX.... : ) Thanks so much! |

I've got narrow, low volume feet close to your size. Almost all my footwear is Sportiva because they fit me well. I'm a 43 in the Bushido, Wildcat, Ultra Raptor, Boulder X, Nepals, G5, etc., etc. I tried the TX3 and 4 and found them a little too wide for my liking. I originally went with a 43 in the TX2 but actually went down to a 42.5. The TX2 is narrow and low volume, but soft and stretches out. They're really comfortable and climb ok, I find them good for smearing but don't edge well compared to the Boulder X. They're lightweight and compact, it'd be a good option for carrying up routes for the descent as you mentioned. The Boulder X is the most comfortable shoe I've had, but heavy to carry up a route. They're great for long approaches or a day in the mountains though, I wore them car-to-car on the Grand. I wouldn't use the TX2 for that. I picked up the TX Guides in 43 and the length is fine but they are really narrow (similar fit to the Bushido). I can't speak to their performance because I haven't used them climbing, I get hotspots just wearing them around the house so I may not keep them. I'm not giving up yet because I want them to work, just surprised how narrow they are. |

TCC wrote: I’m a men’s D (medium width) with normal volume and have been wearing my TX Guides in the house for a long while. They just don’t fit. TX 3 and 4 most definitely built on a different last. They fit great. Lengthwise the TX Guides are fine in the same size. So we’ve similar experiences. |

Nat, you need Guides, period. it's a TX but 10-15% narrower. I wear 46.0 in all three (TX2, TX3, and TX4), as well as the Guide...but I had to do some stretching to get the Guide to fit for a long day on a wall. You'll love them if you have narrow feet, they climb just as well as TX4's. The toe is thicker than the TX2, so you're not going to be able to do foot jams in smaller cracks, but jamming in hand cracks is lovely, you might start climbing anything under 5.9 in them... |

I weighed my TX guide size 41.5 at 332 gm. My TX3 womans 42 at 344 gm. The TX guide is more durable than TX3 and climbs better. The TX 2 will be lighter. If you have low volume foot with a bit more support and durability than TX2, i think TX guide will make you happy. |

Intrigued by the TX Guide reviews. Can anyone make a direct comparison to the old Ganda model (regarded by some as the gold standard for an approach-climbing hybrid)? |

Another vote for the tx guides. I wear 42.5 everything else Sportiva, the next pair might be a 43, but I want a little extra room since they’re so narrow. I’ve run a half marathon in mine, and climbed mid-10s trad. They’re great, except the laces. I replaced mine with 7’ of cord and they’re easier to tie and don’t wear down as quickly. |

The OG Guides and the Leather Guides do have a different upper. Leather has different lacing and being leather, may be a little more forgiving when it comes to fitting a wider foot. Or that's what I've been told. Any comparisons people have made in the Real World? |
