Dispersed Camping near Bald Rock?

I know this area was impacted pretty heavily by fires. Trying to find out if dispersed camping is approved near Bald Rock; the FS website for Plumas isn't the most easily navigable.

Before the fire you could probably stay at the bald rock trail head (the trail head that takes you down the canyon, not the climbers access pull out I wouldn’t stay at the pull out it’s kind of close to someone’s house), I never have stayed the night out there but nobody will bug you at the trail head, same goes with the picnic area. Those would have been the only two place I would have stayed out there, lots of pot growers and other sketchy things.

You have to walk in from the road now to the picnic area. If you walked out there with sleeping stuff you could stay out there, the parking lot is full of burnt trees. The whole area is pretty wrecked with bunches of crews up there clearing trees and houses. I haven’t heard of anyone going to big bald rock since the fire.

Hope this helps.

There is dispersed camping past the trailhead on forest road 21N31Y, near 39.6710944, -121.3391194.

It might be better to have a lower profile than sleeping at the trailhead.

Was there a month ago, couldn’t find any suitable camping due to down trees and lots of logging operations etc. ended up just going home at the end of the day.

Yeah I went out there to Big Bald Rock by the picnic area and it was not too viable for any dispersed camping. I forgot to take a picture but the parking area was blocked off with logs and there was FS signage that the Big Bald Rock trail and maybe area? was closed due to hazards from the fire, not a very clear sign however on the exact extent of closure. It was dated March 2021 so I am not certain how different it is than past closure announcements about the area too.

K T, where you able to get to the parking lot that overlooks the canyon where the hikers trail starts? The climbers approach is a little pull off a mile or so north of parking area for the hiking trail.

You can still get to bald rock picnic area if you walk through the down trees in the parking lot, just park in one of the pull outs down the road.

Yeah thats what we ended up doing. Big Bald Rock appeared to be accessible otherwise we wouldn't have hung about; there were other people on the dome throughout the day.

I noticed the "dome hiker's trail" location on google.  Is this just a trail out to view the dome?

I believe this trail goes down to the river/curtain falls with views of the dome.
