Need warmer gloves for mountaineering

Hi all,

Awhile back I suffered some cold injuries, and as a result I often get cold finger tips. I think my current gloves (Mammuts, not sure of the model) are at least partly to blame. I was hoping for some recommendations for snow/ rock gloves. Something that will actually work down into the teens or single digits.
(I do use hand warmers but it’d be nice to not have to rely on them).

Thanks!

I have used the OR Alti gives for about 4 years heavily for winter mountaineering here in Colorado and HIGHLY recommend them! They have a synthetic liner and a gore-tex outer so they are wind and waterproof.  If you don't think those are enough the OR Alti Mitt is the absolute warmest thing around. The Anti Glove has proven to be extremely durable over the years of climbing and mountaineering and it has all of the features you would ever want in a burly winer glove, yet dexterous enough to climb in.

I haven't used them as long, but also should mention the Hestra Heli Ski Glove (gore-tex version) in either glove, mitt or three finger versions.

I like the rab pivot or guide two.  Bd enforcer is also good.

For cold days ice climbing in NH I use the BD Guide gloves, sure they aren't as dexterous as my normal gloves but for the warmth I'd say they're pretty dang dexterous so check those out.

Is the issue that your hands cut off circulation/nerve issues? That’s what I deal with, and I find mittens really the only solution. Once my fingers are cold, and blood flow is shut off, no matter how warm the glove, it doesn’t come back.

For this issue, thinner mittens are better than thicker gloves.
Trigger finger mitts can be a decent compromise, as long as they don’t have individual fingers on the inside (many do). Making sure they are roomy enough for all 4 fingers to fit together in the mitten part.

BD guide or Soloist , First Light Grizzly, Free the Powder and Hestra all worth considering.Heads up some of the Hestra 3 finger models have the individual fingers inside.

I am currently using the BD Guide trigger. I use either the stock liner (GTX), or an aftermarket FTP liner, which is more breathable and flexible.

If your issue is simply needing a bit more warmth, this all doesn’t apply, and you should just find some decent gloves that you like.

I’ve used BD Guide gloves for years - lost my first pair last March and when I got my identical-looking replacement the leather was much thinner than the earlier ones and in one season of climbing and skiing in them I’ve worn them out. Still warm and dexterous but not durable.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
