Sizing LS Skwamas versus LS Muira VS
|
Hello, I am a relatively new climber wearing a pair of 42.5 LS Skwamas (my first performance shoe) that fit well but are getting a bit worn down, and I figure I should try some other models of shoe to compare different varieties. I found a pair of 42.5 Muira VS online that I could get a decent deal on, but my local gym doesn't have a pair I can try on. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether the Skwamas size similarly to the Muira VS's? I figure since they are same brand and same closure mechanism (velcro strap) they should but just wanted to ask first in case more experienced folks have other thoughts. Thanks! |

I have to size my Skwamas down a full number from most other Sportiva shoes. I wear a 39.5 in Miura & Testarossa, 39 Futura, and 38.5 Skwama. |

I am .5 size down in the skwama (38.5) vs Miura vs(39). The skwama feels significantly wider in the forefoot area as compared to most other LS models, which is what I think accounts for the sizing discrepancy. |

mine are sized the same but since the skwamas only have one closure and my foot is quite narrow, there’s a good amount of dead space in the skwamas. doesn’t really affect the performance for me tho since the length is right and the p3 heel thing keeps my foot in place. |

How is the heel tension on the skwama? I had been wanting to try them, but I am currently recovering from a calcaneus fracture and I don't see being able to tolerate much heel tension for a while. |

I am probably not a great person to speak to heel tension since I'm not 100% sure what that means... however, I can say that Skwamas are definitely a softer shoe and the middle is very flexible so they are less supportive and you feel each move more, compared to say the Miura VS. So I would say in general not great if you are recovering from a foot injury. As far as the heel specifically, though, it feels snug and comfortable, that's all I can really say about it. |

I had a 40 skwama and a 40 miura VS, all I can add is my street size is 40 and I have greek feet, quite a wide forefoot. I sold my 40 miura vs because they never became comfortable. the skwamas have a slight gap now, might even be able to go 39.5 in future. I'd probably get size 40.5 if I were to buy miura vs in future. |

I wear a 40.5 in miuras vs and a 39.5 in skwamas. Totally agree with Brian |

It doesn't make much sense that they would widen the same model so much just for a velcro version -- plus to me it feels like the VS's are still pretty narrow. What is going on there? |

Seanhenry VanDyke wrote: I have no insider knowledge, but my personal experience mirrors the information in that chart. I used to wear Miura laceups almost exclusively, and I tried really hard to be able to fit into Miura VS's but they're either too wide (and the right length) or too short (and the right width) for me. For what it's worth though, the Women's VS seems to have a similar fit to (though much more aggressive than) the Men's laceup. As a sizing reference between the two a performance fit 42.5 in (new/unstretched) Men's laceups feels about equivalent to a performance 42 Women's VS. The laceups will bag out almost a full size over time though, whereas the VS's don't seem to (though I've put many fewer pitches on them). |
