Five Ten Quantum & Hiangle- ruined with updated material
|
This may have been posted about already, but my two favorite shoes have gotten an "Update", and have I bought a pair of each only to find out that they are not even close to the same as the previous models. I've read complaints, but no one has pointed to the specifics of why they are so bad, so I'd like to do that here. In the past, both models of shoes could be broken in within one outdoor sport session, and the quantum I would have broken in within 2 routes, max. What changed? The Rand rubber. The new Rands are extremely painful, in the exact same size that I always wear, which actually fit the same as the old ones, but after multiple uses, and multiple trips out, they show ZERO signs of breaking in. It feels like these shoes will never turn into the smedgy masterpieces that they once were. Both shoes were my go to for comfort, and for powerful edging, slab, and the quantums in particular- for all of the above + cracks. As they are, I don't think I could wear either shoe on a multipitch, which is what the Quantum was designed for, and I couldn't use either for more than a single go without needing to bandaid my bloody toes afterwards. Just an fyi, my toes are quite beat up and can take some abuse. What an epic fail, Adidas! Bring back the classic Rands, and ditch these tire rubber Rands, please! |

Five ten ruining a perfectly good shoe with an unnecessary update? What a suprise |

You’re climbing slab in Quantums and Hiangles? I tried one 5.10ish slab route in my Quantums (blue lace-ups), and lowered from the first bolt to change into my Blancos. Are we talking about the same shoes? |

Jared Chrysostom wrote: Quantums are (were) my favorite all around shoes, and yes, slabs are money in them. If you've only ever had the new models, then I can see what you mean. Before the new updates, they were the best. For examples of my abnormal tactics, I also use the LS Genius on smeary slabs, and before the Hiangle update, those were amazing slab shoes as well. And to clarify, im talking about the blue laced version. Used to be the best shoe of all time. The new models seem to have a light design on the laces, where the previous models have plain white laces. |

Matthew Jaggers wrote: My Quantums are at least a year old so probably not the new ones you're talking about. I guess they just don't work for me on slab, the downturn combined with the stiff sole made everything feel awkward. I would trade mine for an extra pair of Blancos. |

sounds like you guys might have a difference in what constitutes a slab instead. |
