Good replacement laces for climbing shoes?
|
The laces on my scarpa vapors are done for, they’ve each ripped multiple times and now they are too short to tie. Having no luck finding replacement laces directly from scarpa and the la sportivas ones I’m seeing are all sold out. Can anyone recommend strong laces that will work well with my vapor laces? I’ve seen hiking boot laces which look like they’ll last a while but they are likely too thick for my vapors. Don’t wanna just get normal shoe laces that will rip in another few weeks. What are you all using for replacement laces? Paracord potentially? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. |

Same thing happened to me. I bought regular athletic shoelaces from target, and they work just fine |

I used paracord |

I've seen 2mm or 3mm nylon cord used, seems to work pretty well if you seal the ends. Also super cheap and you can buy it by the foot at a lot of gear shops. |

To replace the laces in 20+ pairs of shoes, I wanted an inexpensive solution. 1/8" paracord, with the core fibers removed, worked perfectly. With the core removed, the sheath will lie flat. Melt the ends into points for easier lacing through the holes. |

I've used paracord but it doesn't stay tied nearly as well as regular laces. |

Kevlar boot laces from Duluth Trading. They come in 54, 63 & 72". |

If you never want to buy another pair of laces, try Old Kook's Laces. I used to do construction sitework and these laces outlasted 2 pairs of Carolina's and they're currently on my Sportiva TX2's. They just have pretty large diameter aglets so you might need to widen the holes in your shoes or cut the aglets off. |
