Howdy all! I am in the market for a new helmet; haven't bought a new one in 6 years. What are some good helmets for long days on the wall?

Thanks!

Any lightweight climbing helmet. This is the one I'm using:

I’ve been pretty darn happy with the BD Vision I got this winter. I’ve used it for ice climbing, cragging, and multi pitch in various weather, and I always forget I’m wearing it

My vote goes to the Petzl Sirocco. light = comfort

I'll second the Mammut Wall Rider.  It really fits my head well, YMMV. Get a helmet that fits you and you don't mind wearing for long periods of time. An ill fitting helmet is one you won't wear.

I currently use the previous model of the Black Diamond Half Dome, I really like it but if it ever breaks I'd upgrade to the new Petzl Boreo. I like the helmets with the ABS shell as they last longer than helmets that are primarily foam and therefore the ABS one are kinda more environmentally friendly.

Also the weight difference isn't stopping me from sending just my weak arms.

Mammut Wall Rider or Crag Sender. I have the crag sender and I love it. Its light and comfortable and fits my head well. None of the BD or Petzl helmets I tried on really fit me personally, but my head is on the larger side.

I second the Grivel Stealth, super light, durable and actually comfortable. Worth the extra bucks without a doubt. I have a weird shaped head that doesn't love helmets but I wear my Grivel Stealth all day with very few qualms.

I just bought a new Petzl for my friend, and it looks great! More like a bike helmet, with foam. More protection, too. Considering how easy it would be to fall on a scramble and whack where rockfall wouldn't hit, this is a good thing, for me at least.

Anyone have opinions on these?

My helmets right now are an older BD half dome, and a nicer lightweight BD one I won from MP! It's set aside for ice, but lives in my car, as an extra.

Best, Helen

For me the lighter and more breathable it is, the more likely I am to actually put it on. I had an ABS one for a while, and it spent more time sitting next to my bag at the base of routes than on my head.

I ended up getting the Mammut Wall Rider w/ MIPS. Pricey, but friggin sweet

The MIPS system is the wave of the future. I predict all helmets will incorporate the technology.

I paid the price for being a trendsetter! My mountain biking friends think the helmet with MIPS is rad though

I have a boreo and like it. Light, durable, easy to adjust.

Something with MIPS. I have a BD vision w/ MIPS, fits great and offers peace of mind.

I'm not convinced that MIPS would be all that helpful in a climbing accident. Even with my MTB helmets (1 with MIPS, 2 without), where it could be helpful, I don't really notice the MIPS helmet being any easier to rotate when I move it around on my head.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
