Three Sisters bouldering
|
I was climbing here this past weekend (2/28/21) and noticed a wall of boulder problems beneath the work and play area with some chalk but it wasn’t entirely cleaned— there was a lot of hollow rock and stuff that should probably be pulled off to climb safely. I’m curious about the etiquette in approaching this situation. This area isn’t on MP, but definitely had chalk. How do we feel about climbers coming up with tools and cleaning the area, potentially putting up new problems? |

If you're talking about the wall directly off hidden fawn trail just past pachyderm boulder. Probably a terrible idea. It's directly in view of the trail and using tools like that on open space land is not likely acceptable. |

I've wondered about that area as well. At the beginning of the pandemic I climbed there once when other warmup areas were occupied. There is a lot of hollow rock but it felt possible to avoid bad holds. The obvious line up and a low traverse were fun v-easy, but the poor rock quality keeps me from going back. Next time I'm at Three Sisters I'll try to remember to take a photo when I walk by this area. I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same place though - just past pachyderm boulder on hidden fawn trail (west side). |

Since we're talking Three Sisters - anyone know what this boulder is near the Three Sisters summit just off the trail? |

Whether or not a boulder is on mp means nothing. If a boulder has been developed one should mostly use nothing but soft brushes. In terms of newly developed boulder s if you have to question whether or not you should be doing it you probably shouldn't. Three sisters has plenty of rock &" beautification " of a wall for ok climbing (using prybars to scar a face) would be in poor taste. |

Bass Pro I've gotta politely disagree with ya, the area I am talking about poses a danger to climbers and the hollow parts could be removed so folks could climb on it. Anywho-- thanks for input |

You don't need to climb everything. If you have to question if its OK then probably should look elsewhere, especially if its directly off a trail or close to other user groups. Just my 2 cents. A lot of FA fever out there but not all rock is worth it. Boulders aren't routes they shouldn't turn into construction projects. |
