Sandal recommendation
|
Need new sandals. I got 3 must haves 1. Thinner sole (not paper thin but definitely not like those thick ass Chaco bottoms) 2. Straps around ankle 3. Has strap for big toe (not just straps over metatarsals)

Bedrock sandals? Not sure what you are looking for re: straps on the toe |
|
i love my bedrocks. |
|
Another vote for Bedrocks. I have the Cairn model, and I like it a lot. |
|
And one more thumbs up for the Bedrocks. Also worth considering Xeros. They're are incredibly light and packable, but with soles more on the paper-thin side. The big downside of Xero is their relentless marketing once they have your contact info. xeroshoes.com/shop/sandals/… |
|
ANOTHER vote for Bedrock Cairns. Best sandals I've ever had. |
|
I got a pair of the Xeroshoes a fews years ago. I got them for camp shoes while backpacking because they are so light. They are flat-soled, with no upturn on the toe end, so it's easy to get gravel in. Still, they were the lightest I could find, so I'm happy with them. |

I love my bedrocks too! Get the OG Cairn. The 3D and other models are a major step backwards!!! |

Fred Flintstone lived in Bedrock, too. |

I'm always surprised the >$100 price point for these strapy sandal. Not just Bedrock. The soul construction seems more more simple compared to a running shoe. The strap uppers seem simple, but perhaps there is more to sewing the webbing. I have been buying used off Ebay to get around the price point. I love sandals in the summer for approaches and some hiking. |

Toetem Sandals are made by an MP member and seem to be good as well. You can also get them with Vibram rubber if you so desire. |
|
Yet another vote for Bedrock Cairn. I've had mine for 3 years, and my wife has had hers for 2 years. We use them for belaying, light approaches, and kayaking. They've handled everything with aplomb, and are holding up incredibly well. |

Earth Runners - most comfortable sandals I've ever worn...and that includes Bedrocks. |
|
I had a pair of xero trails that I wore quite a bit but started falling apart after about 6 months. The small pieces of rubber on the bottom started peeling off first and then the strap attachment near my smallest toe blew out one day coming back from a crag. Not the easiest hike back with one functional sandal. They did replace them for me fortunately. My replacement pair has been going strong for awhile but the metal loop that the velcro strap feeds through for the back of it broke on both the left and right sandal. Easy enough to replace with a loop of accessory cord. Fwiw the issues I had with the first pair don't seem to be showing anytime soon on the second. I have to say, I really like the sandal in terms of comfort and weight but I'm not sure I would buy it again unless they addressed what I consider some pretty significant longevity flaws for a sandal marketed with a 5000 mile warranty. But hey they honored it. Final note, my buddy has a pair of z treks that he wears twice as much as I wear my z trails and they have lasted a few years without replacement. |

Do the bedrocks ever go on sale? This thread got me inspired to grab them, but I'm really reluctant to drop $110 on them |

Erik Strand wrote: Not really, that I've seen. I think I got my first pair when REI had their 20% off coupon, but that's about it. The main issue is that very few retailers carry them. |

Erik Strand wrote: What size are you? Have an extra pair to sell in size 9. I’d go with Andrew’s suggestion though. The only time they go on sale on the Bedrock’s website is for Black Friday and it’s pretty much the same discount (20%) as with an REI coupon. Oh and yes, Bedrocks are great! |

A Bedrock resole is $65 (they basically transfer the straps to a new lower), but the wear on mine has been so light that I'm not actually sure when I'll have to do that. There's a review from a guy who wore his 900+ miles with a pack at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8yVfG-wxXg to get an idea of the longevity. |

sorry for such a late reply. Bedrock cairin is exactly what i was looking for. thanks |
