Planning to do a Zion/Bryce/Grand Canyon trip, best spot to hire a guide?
|
I'm planning to do a two week trip visiting Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon. Was wondering which area would be best to hire a guide for the day as a novice climber? Any recommendations are welcome! |

Hi William, I own/manage Rock Odysseys and we take clients rock climbing in the Zion/ St. George area. Our website, https://www.rockodysseys.rocks/ has more information about the area and what we offer. Also if you want to talk more in depth about the rock climbing or any questions about the areas you are traveling to you can call or text me at 435-767-7147, Have fun on your trip. The desert is a very special pace, -Dion |

Wenmar B wrote: Living near Zion I am biased so I would tell you to come here. Just remember if you plan on climbing in Zion you can't use a guide because they are not allowed to guide in Zion National Park. The places guides take most people are really cool and worth the trip if you want to maximize time or need a pro to take you on a climb. If your looking for big wall or Zion climbs though better to link up with a local (vetted) and climb in the park on you own. |

Dan H wrote: Great reminders Dan! I’m also a climbing guide based in Southern Utah. I work with reddesertadventure.com and offer rock climbing instruction and guided climbing. You will get a number of awesome people responding to this post, see who fits your needs, and schedule best. You won’t be disappointed! This area is full of talented guides and great services, Dion is no exception, he’s a great guide and skilled climber! Thanks for posting, we’ll see you out on the rocks! |

Hijacking this old post - what town is best to stay in, for climbing inside Zion? We’ll be traveling cross country with all our climbing gear so we don’t feel like also bringing camping gear, looking for a reasonable hotel / motel / hostel situation. |

Springdale if you can find something affordable especially if you need access to the shuttle. Hurricane isn't too far a drive. The gizzle (St. George) further out but not terrible (hour and change). You could stay in Cedar City if you were climbing in Kolob. Actually, not a heck of a longer drive to commute to Zion from Cedar City instead of St. George. Still a drive, though. I usually stay in Hurricane. Pain to park to ride the shuttle but...that's how it is. |
