Thoughts on the mammut trion Nordwand 15
|
Thinking about getting this pack for fast and light multi pitch ice, and crossover to summer alpine climbing. Any recommendations, thoughts on this pack specifically? |

That is an expensive 15L pack. |

Any ice and mixed climbers have a review of this pack? I personally love running vest style packs and this seems like the most ice/ alpine climbing oriented that I have seen. Has anyone come up with a better way to carry Type 2 ice tools on it than shown in the marketing photo below? |

Bendable gear ties work well for that and also can secure the opposite tool’s pick to keep it all tight. I’ve used this pack quite a bit for day hiking and multi-pitch rock with a short approaches since last fall, but still find myself grabbing my old Cold Cold World pack for anything on ice. 15L is not enough for what I choose to carry ice climbing but I’m sure some people can make it work. |

Thanks. Looks good. It seems like you could use a small keychain carabiner to clip the daisy chain and trap the opposite pick a little bit more efficiently than using the bendable gear tie. |

Are the loops too small to do it the “std way”? Or do you want faster retrieval? I guess the extra few secs to insert the axe the normal way never really bothered me. Usually keeps it all nice and tight . |

I did in fact end up acquiring this pack. What i did was use two more Velcro straps at the bottom of the daisy chain. Essentially slotting the pick into a loop and then velcroing the shaft near the head. So essentially it was two velcro straps holding each tool on. |

Karl Henize wrote: No complaints. Good pack all around. Reasonably durable. As in body of pack is good. Running harness obviously wears quicker but not of concern |

Thanks! |
