South Sister road/trailhead question

Anyone know when the road opens to Devils Lake trailhead, past Mt Bachelor ski area? Planning some spring skiing on South Sister in April or May and curious for trip planning. Last years opening date? Rough date in years past. Snow dependent? Thanks for any replies.

The goal is by Memorial Day. Some years early May, other years early June. All depends on the snow pack.

Thanks Allen. I thought when I saw ‘Closed Dec - Mar’ on google maps it seemed way too early.

I’ll look into a snowmobile ride if the road is closed. Planning on late April/early May. If anyone can suggest a guide company that would offer an early ride up the road, I’d appreciate it.

From the parking area at Bachelor to the Green Lakes Trailhead it is all down hill and with snowmobiles it is packed so it goes quick. Where you want the ride is coming out. And though not there, I have had luck coming out to a road, sticking my thumb out, and getting a ride back to parking areas on a snowmobile. That said planning to come out on a weekend is your best chance of a spontaneous ride. Though with COVID I might bring a 20' rope so to be pulled behind.

In 2020 it was first week of June.

I don't remember numbers, but I skied South Sister last March and skinning the road wasn't too bad. Significantly further, but still a reasonable day. You'll probably have it to yourself too.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
