So in 12 years I have had solutions , katanas , Tc pros , 5.10 sandstones etc and never ever had a shoe that fits me as good as the scarpa helix does. I am so pleased with them.

My question is, what am I sacrificing with them?
they fit perfectly and are skin tight but don’t hurt.

I have only used them indoors so far. Why do people call them a beginner shoe? Are they horrible outside? Are they not sticky? After owning more aggressive shoes in the past I don’t think I gained anything from them other then sore feet.

What am I missing?

I mean even the Tc pro is flat on the bottom and people say that shoe is amazing

I have a pair and would agree that they are a great value. Apparently there was a previous version with worse rubber so that might be part of their reputation. I like them a lot for gym use and moderate climbing outdoors but would still pick a different shoe for harder climbing. More discussion in this previous thread: mountainproject.com/forum/t…;

They are by far my favorite Indian Creek shoe! Their midsole is not the most robust, and they will not be able to edge as effectively on hard routes. They have a pretty flat lasted profile which doubles down on this weakness. However, they smear well and have a thin enough vertical profile along with their inherent flatness to make a pretty decent crack shoe. Plus, they are Great value!

Note that there are two different versions of the Scarpa Helix. The newer ones are blue for men and orange for women. The older Helix were red/grey for men and purple/grey for women. It looks like a completely different shoe model, so I don't understand why they reused the name Helix. My feet really enjoyed the old red/grey model. However, they had a zig-zag seam on the side of the shoe that was shredded in less than 10 days of Creek climbing.

So are the new ones or the old ones good for the creek lol

I of course have the new blue ones

I have a pair which I also love, for the reasons the OP listed. HOWEVER, I do feel like they stretched a bit, so I wish I had gone down a 1/2 size. The pair I got fit perfectly in the store, but stretched out after 1 or 2 uses. I now have to wear them with socks.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
