Free and legal camping, closer than Lovell Canyon

Just wanted to repost this link from the Southern Nevada Climber's Coalition. They have a page detailing legal camping options south of highway 160. This is a much better option than camping on the side of 159 aka "Skid Row". I know the SNCC had posted this info before but I totally forgot about it and wanted to repost here to get the info out.

I thought I read somewhere there's an issue with the road heading in there, can someone confirm the road is passible?

The road in is fairly rough, highish clearance vehicle is nice, 4WD is not necessary. Lots of sharp limestone and trash and broken glass on the road and at the camp spots. Had a nail go right through the sidewall of my tire there once. Just take the road slow. Haven’t been back there since last year so my observations may be outdated but this is a good option for free camping close to Black Velvet area. I think the BLM’s rule for acceptable camping in that area (see the SNCC map) is that you must be out of site from the highway and the city must not be visible.

I feel like you can camp most places as long as you are out of sight of the highway and the city is not visible ;)
Anyways I'll be reporting back with driving conditions in my not-so-practical vehicle to get there.

I tried to get back there in my Sprinter a few weeks ago. You definitely need high clearance. I turned around about 100m in.

It is, if you have a Jeep or other 4x4 vehicle. But if you have a van or bus, it's not gonna work for ya.

Maybe the weather has changed the approach but I was easily able to get my junky 2wd Sprinter back there a few weeks ago.

Did you take the correct road? There are 2 ways to get back there. My Sprinter is capable of both.

A friend drove down there in a car/wagon and was unable to make the destination.

Would love to know how you went. I followed the directions posted on the link in the OP. The road in was totally washed out. (I can't figure out how to attach a photo, but I took one to share with another van/bus dwelling friend.)
