La Sportiva Sizing, Specifically Testarossas
|
Hi All, I have Katana Lace, Miura VS, and, Skwama all in 39. Overall, I think Katana Lace is probably the most comfortable as I have wide and high volume feet. Skwamas are fun, but they are a bit across my foot. I am thinking about trying the Testarossa since its lace closure should be better for high volume feet. What size should I try? |

I went with same sizing as katana lace and I love em! |
|
Testarossa matches solution, futura, and women's skwama for me. |

Mountain Foot Wear Project Thought these sizes were actually helpful for reference. |

Another data point.. .5 size down from solution, miura vs. For me |

I have a wide foot narrow heel, high volume. Old testarossa did not fit well for me, heel was baggy. I haven’t tried the new ones, wonder if they fit all that different. I wear all three of those shoes, and they are 41 katana and miura vs, 40.5 for skwama. I tried 41 and 40.5 in testarossa and they just didn’t fit well. |

I wear 38.5 pythons (about the same as skwama I believe) and the 38.5 new-style testes were fucking impossible. Not only was it very tight length wise but my foot is apparently so wide that the tongue did not cover the top of my foot all the way from side to side. It looked comical. |

They do not stretch FYI |

Dekun P wrote: They stretch in volume.I take medium fit la sportiva shoes like the katana lace ..futura (2018 version). I size 37 in these shoes..With the testerossa I went down to 36.Really comfy fit like a glove. No issues at all.The new heel pushes your toes to the front so keep that in mind ..how the toe box feels when new won't change much that's been my experience.anyway. |

I wear 39.5 in both the yellow and blue Miura VS and the new Testarossa. For reference I’m a 9 in every street shoe. |

So, I've put a lot of time into this topic, as I'm always diving down the rabbit hole of which shoe will make me climb 5.13 overnight (answer: shockingly none of them, damn) but here's what I'd say: 1/2 size down from Katana. I think the hard-to-gauge aspect here for you is that you're wearing three very different shoes in the same size. I think a lot of people and online charts will say to go down a whole size from your Katana, but I'd be hesitant to. Chances are, if your skwama in the same size as your katana feels tight, you might even want to stick with a 42 across the board. Those skwamas will stretch to infinity. I went 1-to-1 with skwamas. You most certainly can stretch testarossa's but wowza will it took some effort. It involved 2 hot showers, and baking 'em at 200 degrees in my toaster oven. I think if I did it over again, I'd probably run a half-size up from my Skwamas. I think the new shoe, in addition to less downturn and the better heel, is a touch stiffer. size it to edge better. For reference: foot shape: wide, low volume, collapsing arch with considerable splay. two bone spurs along 5th metatarsal (ski boots). street shoe: 10.5 (vans, nike, etc., but a 44.5 la sportiva tx2) Brannock Measurement: 27.75 right, closer to 28 on the left. Katana lace (42.5, comfy, all day). Miura (42, comfy, but single pitch only). Skwama (41.5, started out wicked tight, now suuper comfy), old testarossa (42, best fit ever). new testarossa (41.5, rippin 'em off at the anchors). |

So I found a sizing database that has a decent amount of information: https://sizesquirrel.com/ For some more information, my Brannock size is 6EEE, so I am probably very hard to fit. My sneakers size have been 8.0M, but lately I found 7.5EE fit much better. Skwamas are weird, they were like death vise when I first got them (in the same size as my Miura VS 39). Now that I have broken them in, I realized my big toe does not completely feel the tip, so I might have been able to go half size smaller. It is also not as asymmetric as the Miura VS, so that might be why. Nevertheless they are surprisingly secure on small foot jibs. I mainly do technical face climbs. I just got my Testarossas on sale in 39 as well. Right out of the box, I would say they fit more or less like Miura VS, with similar amount of volume and asymmetry. I haven't been able to take them out for a spin yet. |

More data for y'all, I wear these sizes: Otaki 40 (mid fit) Kataki 40 (mid fit, little tighter than the otakis) Old Testarossa 39.5 (competition tight, heel is slightly wide) Skwama 39 (mid fit, seemed to stretch a whole size) Tarantula w/Velcro 40 (comfort training) Solution 39.5 (competition tight, I can't get a 39 on my foot) TC Pro 39.5 (mid fit) Miura 39.5 (competition tight) Edit: just bought a second pair of Otakis, same size in 40. These are considerably bigger than my other ones by about half a size. |
