Any information on the Cave of Munits?
|
I went on a hike to the cave of Munits in El Escorpio State Park today. I noticed a lot of bolted routes within the cave today but it was hard to tell if they were bomber or not due to the lighting. I found one video from 2016 of people climbing there, but I was wondering if there is any more information on the safety, the legality of climbing there, and maybe some of the grades of the routes there. Thanks! |

It says not allowed on rockclimbing.com, but that's the only place I can find that says that. None of the .gov sites, alltrails, etc say anything about not being allowed to go into the cave |

I was gonna go climb there. But my belayer was scared. |

It's off limits out of respect to the local tribe that uses for ceremony. |

Castle Peak was used for ceremonies not Cave of Munits as far as I can find online. Was out there today. Definitely no restrictions on access. Wide open but bring a trash bag to take out some of the trash if you go climb here. This area fills with city ppl scrambling on the weekends. |

On another note we saw at least 6 newer bolted routes to newer anchors and a few more with iffy looking bolts and rusted shuts at the top. Brand new quickdraws on the 4th or 5th bolts from recent bails on 2 of the routes in the first chamber. |
