I'm studying into crevasse rescue and was wondering how long a foot prusik cord should be for the Texas System? also, how long is a standard hip prusik cord?

Anyone know any online explanation or elsewhere of how to tie the foot prusik?

Practice too! Using a Texas kick is a lot harder than it looks.

Always look to Texas for all your crevasse and glacier travel needs....

Two lengths of your wingspan for TX. Hip is one length.

Is there a reason not to just clip a sling to a regular length prusik?

That's the method I use, never knew it was called "Texas". I have the upper loop to the harness so that I can reach the sliding  knot with my arm slightly bent when weighted, and the lower foot loop so the knot is a bit above waist level. I only use one foot in the loop (girth hitch to prevent it slipping out). I'm light and fairly agile which helps with the method, and may use the crook of my arm to keep upright if necessary. I've had to use a chain of slings and nuts when I haven't had prusik loops, so the prusiking knot depends on the material and its dimensions.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
