Jack's Canyon Sport Climbing - AZ

Does anyone know where I can buy this guidebook in the Phoenix area? Also, does anyone know how crowded it gets up there on the average weekend? https://www.amazon.com/dp/the1438287674/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_j6L.FbX2JA8WF |

Arizona hiking shack should have it. You can call ahead to make sure. |

Flagstaff Climbing usually has some. Call ahead. Pre pandemic, Jacks was popular, but rarely was it overcrowded. These days, it’s probably way more popular. |

I would imagine it is not very popular in January. |

I've been a couple of times in February and it was fine for climbing, just really cold at night. |

We had to leave and go south when we woke to all of our water frozen solid, 5 gallon jug included. |

Jacks is climbable twelve months a year, depending on what wall you go to. But, sometimes the river complicates things. I've been shut out completely because the river was PUMPING. Probably good now... For weather forecasts, you basically look at Happy Jack and Winslow. Take the precip. forecast for Winslow (maybe add 10% chance?) and the temp. forecast for Happy Jack (maybe add 3-4 degrees), and that's what you should expect. The book is very helpful and quite good. It does get super cold at night during the winter... Have not noticed that it's any more crowded during COVID than it used to be. There will be people there, but not too bad. If you want more specific beta I'm happy to give it to you--DM me. |
