San Francisco Area Mountaineering climbing partner
|
Hey all! I'm a 29 year old guy who did a bit of mountaineering while living and Washington a few years back and am looking to get back into it. I've climbed Mt Rainier, Adams and Helens a few times and have taken a few mountaineering courses. My old climbing partner has moved out of the west coast and I'm looking to find a new partner! I have some objectives in mind that I'd like to try out, such as climbing Mt Shasta, climbing Mt Rainier in one push, or tackling Mt Adams in the winter on skis. But I'm mostly just looking to get back on the mountains. I'm currently living in San Francisco and obviously covid is going to put a hold on much of this for the time being, but figured it might worth posting this now to see if I can find someone who has similar goals! |

Hey David, I’m 27 and have climbed a lot of mountains in California and Colorado. I particularly like long easy alpine routes and skiing off summits. I live in Bishop on the East Side, if you ever want to make a trip out to the Sierra Nevada give me a holler. 319-651-2949 Blaine |

Hey All, I am 28 and also located in Bishop if you ever are in need of a mountaineering partner. I have done Whitney in the winter, attempted russell in winter, done Shasta and a number of other peaks in the Sierras. I am familiar with crampons, ice axe, ice climbing but don't have AT skis (too dang expensive). Love getting out into the mountains and tagging some summits. Feel free to reach out if interested. |

David, my name is Jack. Sounds like we have similar goals and experience. I want to climb all the Cascade Volcanoes. I have summited all the big 5 in WA, working on OR and Shasta now. Planning a trip up to OR this spring to knock out the three sisters in one suffer fest. Haha. I am proficient in trad multi pitch climbing, ice travel, axes, crampons and cravas rescue. Good for muti day trips. I moved to Oakland last year from Astoria, OR. So, I lost alot of my mountaineering partners as well. It's difficult to find people that like to suffer in the high alpine... haha. I wouldn't mind doing a winter assent of Lassen, or other peaks. If you are interested in meeting up let me know. We could do some rock climbing over in Berkeley, real easy or even a hike or something to get to know each other a little more. Hope to hear from you. sincerely, Jack |

PM-ed! For anyone else, I’d love a Cascades partner(s) for some winter ascents. Done that done to mind include Whitney, Hood, Shasta, Rainier, Adams, Jefferson, and Helen’s. Y’all holler whenever you want. Daniel Lewis 731-697-4142 |

Hi All, Would love to get out there and climb! Always training. Live in San Jose. Have done Whitney, Shasta, Rainier. I've taken all the necessary courses. This year I have plans to do Hood, Baker and the Ecuador Volcanoes. Going to do Shasta again in the Spring. I'm always training....looking for the highest peaks in the area and out of the area to train. If you want to hike any peaks in the area for training let me know!!! Thanks!! :) |

Def just PMed everybody. Whitney, Shasta, Hood, or Baker all sound good right now. Depending on the days, I’m open during the week also. Hopefully we can get together a couple/group. Anyone feel free to call or text me. 731-697-4142. Work email is daniel@tristarlawfirm.com. |

Could anyone do a peak 3/28–4/4? Maybe Shasta? |

Hey David, I live in SF and was thinking of going to lassen this week, maybe tomorrow night. I know it’s not the biggest goal but would like to summit lassen from the Southern parking lot (around 11mi round trip). I’m a splitboarder and have crampons, axe. Also, I am planning to do a trip to east side of Shasta in May, and would also be down for Rainier (have climbed DC route) and Hood. I like climbing mountains as much as I hate walking down them, so would be split boarding where possible. Hit me up if you want to connect 415-800-7800.cheers |

Hi all, I'm in San Jose, doing Shasta in 8 weeks. Training all year round (Mission Peak is my goto!). I have done basic glacier travel training and I plan to do Ecuador volcanoes after Shasta! I'm also planning on going to Eastern Sierra in the summer for training on 13/14ers in the area. Hit me up - I'm up for training hikes, summer trips in the Sierra or planning for Ecuador volcanoes! |

What are people thinking about Shasta Avalanche Gulch timing, given conditions this year? Should everyone get on it ASAP before it melts out even further - or does the normal "May through July" season still somewhat apply, especially for Avalanche Gulch, whose season is later than other routes? Originally I was thinking June, that's definitely too late. Is even May too late? Now I'm considering this coming weekend given the deteriorating conditions and warm, windless forecast. PM me if you want to link up this weekend. |
|
I talked to my guide and they are confident that there will be snow around June (at-least mid-June) and are not considering moving the climb dates any time soon. edit: I did look at the recent pics from someone who was at Shasta recently - multiple other guides I talked to said to do this in May if possible otherwise they would not use Avalanche Gulch. |
|
I'm hoping to get on Avalanche Gulch on a weekend in the next month or so. Would love to join one or more of you guys if people are up for it - preferably someone who skis/boards, although I could be convinced to leave the skis at home as they were damn heavy last year. |

Love for y’all to start a GroupMe for a Shasta trip. My cell phone number is 731-697-4142. |

Anyone heard how conditions are on the Hotlum glacier? Would love to get out on that side of Shasta this year. Seems like it might open up much earlier than usual given the snow. Also looking for Bay Area based mountaineering partners! |
|
I chatted with someone in Yosemite this weekend who climbed Avalanche Gulch to red banks last weekend. Said it was the lowest snow she's ever seen in April and that rockfall is prevalent everywhere, with so many rocks in the snow it's difficult if not impossible to ski the route. Looking like Avy Gulch might be a 2022 objective for me... |
