Mountain Project Data API deprecated
|
I It says that you can continue to use the API if you are already doing so. Does this mean that you can only use the API if you already have a key, or is there another API (as opposed to the data API) that I am not aware of? I'm wondering if this is a step toward pay-walling content or if there is another API under development. Edit: Fixed my spelling errors because my misspelling of the word 'deprecated' caused my post to be incomprehensible. Unfortunately I can't fix the title, but I meant deprecated there too, in case that is confusing to anyone. Edit: I'm unobservant, I went back into mobile and you can edit it there too. Looks like 2021 is gonna be a rough year for me. |

Kevin Beverly wrote: That's a good point. I personally wouldn't mind a premium service being added, as long as the community sourced data is still free on the main app. |

Allow me to introduce you all. Everyone, this is FrankPS. FrankPS, this is everyone. Frank is one of the resident trolls here at mountainproject.com. I usually just toss him a few Cheetos whenever I cross a bridge. My editing of the original post was an effort to feed him, #pleasefeedthetrolls. |

There are two alternative and active open source projects (The 2nd one is mine) |

I was hoping to avoid a solution that involves scraping because of the gray area that can fall into. I will look into these projects and potentially shoot you an email. The UI/Docs on your site look super clean |

I kind of hope MP doesn't fall into the Instagram-type TOS (where the content is not protected w/ login/password so each post/photo/video can be shared, but you can't browse related posts w/o a login and scraping of any form is prohibited), but my gut tells me that's where it's headed. The whole putting the "Latest Posts" behind a login (what exactly does it accomplish?) was step one. |

vietgoeswest wrote: I'm new to this whole thing (API's/DB's/etc) but have been able to basic things with the data you extracted, so first of all thank you! I was wondering though, are you still able to obtain the Canadian data from MP? I assume getting an access key may be more difficult now? Scraping doesn't seem too difficult though, I did scrape Sendage.com data quite easily as I was learning. |

I just stumbled upon this and wanted to bump it. |

I'm complaining about onX and the impact they have are having on Mountain Project and the climbing community, not suing them. |

Sure, but you said “shitty company”. The only impact of removing the API is making it difficult for those who want to skate on the work of others who are doing the thankless task of designing and maintaining a database. I don’t blame them for removal of a *free* API. |

Marc801 C wrote: I don’t think onx has done much but reinstate ads and host the data/site. I bet it took more work for them to deprecate the api but whatever. Glad I stumbled upon this thread, specifically for those two other projects that are happening. Right on! #opensourcemountainproject

It seems that the Mountain Project API can no longer be used with existing keys. https://www.mountainproject.com/data (which formerly displayed the deprecation notice) and endpoints like https://www.mountainproject.com/data/get-ticks now return 404 errors. I think that this happened in the last month or so. |

I’ll reiterate the “shitty” |
