Wait so you can't find a GPS tracking device? I've been considering getting one of these, but if there isn't a way to track it without physically pushing a button on it that seems like a bad design?

You can set it up to transmit location to preselected recipient(s) at regular time intervals. You are able to access a web link that will give you that location data, so theoretically you’d be able to see where it last sent location data if you set it up to send this.
If it is turned off when you lose it, there's no signal being sent to help find it. Like csproul said, it would not only need to be turned on, but transmitting to your Mapshare page.
Even if it’s not setup to transmit regularly you can ping the device from a computer. If that setting is disabled you can log in to your account and change it.
a few months ago a bag fell off my bike with my wallet, keys, and fortunately my inReach mini. It was on but not sending out regular updates. I had to go in and change some settings but was able to ping it and found the bag deep in a drainage ditch. If the signal is poor it may take several hours to hear back from the device.
