Reel Rock 15.... impressions?

I haven’t seen it yet but the social media from The North Face this spring felt really odd to me. It was like they were rounding up all the inner city black kids and trucking them off to the rocks to act like the white folk do. I’m sure that was not their intention but it had a “we are inclusive even if we have to be inclusive by force” vibe to it. I’m looking forward to checking it out when I get a chance. |

pretty darn solid all around. |

I felt like 3/4 were great. Really uninterested in Lonny's daddy issues. |

I really loved the different vibe of Black Ice - I think it's the best film in the RR series, with the focus on community and humor. |

I’m sure that this is an unpopular opinion but I was not crazy about the Mongolia trip videos. I was stoked to see some epic climbing and landscapes in an amazing beautiful country and those were all there .... buuut I guess I just felt like there was a ton of fluff and filler. They finished film one at a very suspenseful moment about the ladies climbing on ancestral rocks. then part two started and it turned out to be just a tea ceremony. |

I thought black ice was fantastic. Action direct was classic RR, and it was short and sweet. Honestly I thought the magic line movie was super hokey. There was some really good content in there, don't get me wrong, but it also felt like they were really hamming up the whole angle of native people having a connection to the land. And I'm not saying they don't have that connection, I'm saying it felt kind of forced and obtuse, like they were really beating the viewer over the head with it. Idk maybe it was just me? |
