Instinct 40 is tight but comfortable after break in
-I like tight shoes but should chimera be aggressively downsized as it’s soft enough for smearing? Or is that not what chimera is about? If I size too tight wil it be worthless for smear while only gaining little bit of precision?
-what is this shoe good/bad at, and how to size it to maximize its strengths?
If you go too tight in the chimera you tend to push the rand out past the sole and wear it down (like newer climbers tend to, but not where rand meets the sole but higher up about mid height of big toe). Have two friends who like them tight, sized down as much from street as you, both blow through the rand by then end life of one sole (and climb at a high level with precise footwork).
I have two pairs as my comfy all arounders at only one size down from street. They smear quite well and edge well still. I wore the sole through completely with no severe rand wear. They still edge well enough that I’ve done 35m sport routes with some thin edging in them, but that said I can carry less pump in the thin vert part with testsrossas
I size mine the same as my instinct vsr's. I'm a 42 street, and wear 39.5 in my scarpas. I wouldn't size down more than I do in the Chimera's, I think it'd defeat the purpose of having a soft and sensitive shoe. I'd go for size 40, or maybe 40.5 if I were you.

Street shoe I am about a 10.5 street shoe whatever that conversion is. I have a 43 in the Chimera. Fit feels great except the heel, pretty baggy there. If I were to order again I would get the 42. I recently got a drago in 41.5 which was very tight but is feeling really nice now that the shoe has stretched out.
