BD Fusion vs. Fuel

Does anyone have experience with both? What similarities and differences (balance, grip, etc.) do you notice?

I lost one of my Fusion tools and I'm looking for an equivalent (BD no longer makes the model). Fuel appears to be similar, but I'm curious if their performance differ.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Fusion is significantly different, they are longer and more aggressive, also the lower pommel is brilliant for mixed climbing. The fuel is shorter, less aggressive, and a bit lighter. The result is the fuel being more manageable on ice but at the expense of performance on rock.

Of the ice tools that are in production, the Fuel is the closest thing to the Fusion.  The grip is essentially the same.  The shaft have the same shape and stiffness, but the Fuel is a little bit shorter.

The pick angle of the Fuel is more open, with the stock ice plus pick.  I think BD changed the angle of their mixed pick recently to make it 3 degrees steeper / more closed.  If you were to get the get the Fuels and mixed picks, it would be fairly similar to the Fusion.

Search these forums for old threads on the Fuel and Fusion for more info.

Last year Rock n Roll sports in Gunnison Colorado had one green fusion for sale. I doubt they’ve sold it.

I am also looking for a single Fusion tool.. Maybe we can work something out if you haven't solved this yet?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
