Numbness in thumb after blunt trauma

I was removing a nut like an idiot and yanking up on it when it dislodged and wacked my thumb pretty good. The thumb went numb instantly, and the whole area from base of thumb up to the tip is still numb several days later. Seems pretty obvious that I hit the median nerve and injured it in some way. No other obvious sign of injury, no mark or bruise. Anyone experience similar and report if they got feeling back in the nerve?

Is your entire thumb numb, or is it only the inside near the ring finger or the outside away from the ring finger?

Regardless, sounds like a bruised nerve.

If severely damaged, in general they will regrow from the point of injury at about 1 mm/day.

I've had similar, but mild, injuries recover faster- probably only partial injury.

FWIW, more likely a digital nerve than the median nerve

The numbness is on the outside of the thumb. If i look at my hand palm side up it is on the left side of the thumb, away from the fingers. I still have feeling on the inside towards the index finger. Just below the knuckle at the base of the thumb there is a point where if I press I get a tingling/shock sensation, and I have feeling below this point.

Digital nerve.

Should get better.

May take a while, even up to a couple of months.

But maybe you’ll get lucky and it’ll be faster. Good luck!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
