The best ice gloves just got better

Ok I'm jumping on the bandwagon here. Mine just came in last week in time for me to take them for a ski tour. As others have said they run small. I got XL when I normally wear a large. I couldn't fit an additional liner in there if I wanted to. Double size up if that is your plan. The palm feels distressingly thin, I doubt they will last the season. That being said I plan to break em out for the occasional waterfall climb not to be a quiver of one. I found them to breathe pretty well while skinning without moisture buildup. When I woke up to -5F I wore them while melting snow and breaking camp and I stayed dry and had enough dexterity to fiddle with burner knobs and tent clips. Definitely worth the $20!

Hard to disagree on the value aspect for that price, and as I use a version of these gloves for cold water/ice diving, I know they work for warmth in cold/wet conditions, but price aside, for 90% of pure ice climbing and gear/screw handling, these would be much much further down my choice list.   Last Sunday the ice was wet and dripping (due to farming hose just being turned off) with temps in the upper teens and yet still didn’t warrant going to these.  Got 5 pairs I prefer above them.

I like the fishing gloves for grade 4 and below. My XL pair is now officially a work glove.

Ok, so the conditions were pretty wet, dripping ice (about WI 4+) with air temps about 15 -18 F.  I did about 5-6 pitches worth of climbing (rope soloing).   Only used 1pair of gloves, and they got approx 40% wet, (#4 below)

Some of my favorite mixed/ice gloves;

1. OR mixalot  is my favorite

2. Hestra xc ergo grip (new this season)

3. New gen OR mixalot.  not as good as old

4. BD gloves.. model?

5. Mizuno batting gloves   Great for rock

6. Adidas receiver gloves   Great finger pads, grippy waterproof palm

All above can be paired with lightest/thinnest smartwool liner gloves for great warmth to single digits

Additional Notes:  none are technically waterproof, but my main criteria are finger length (no floppy fingertips)  and palm texture (prefer soft leather)

Here’s the thing for me.  If it’s warm enough for the ice to be wet, I’m never cold.  If it’s cold enough to worry about my hands (single digits to below zero) it’s rarely wet.
sometimes you DO get both cold/wet, but it’s rare and I still prioritize finger fit and palm texture over waterproofness. Just don’t like the grabby texture of that black rubber and the finger fit is off for me

This last round was a good test with really wet dripping ice, and reasonably cold, and the no.4s were warm enough with no liner glove and it remained more than 50% dry. (Axes used were Nomics and cobras)

If someone has a set of L they want to unload my wife wants a set too.

I climbed in these recently at around 30*F and found my hands were getting quite cold, to the point of numbness at the end of the pitch. I'm starting to wonder if I have a minor case of Raynaud's disease because I used the previous blue version at the same temperatures without issue

I've got a few XXL's if someone wants to try these. Blue ones have a velcro strap sewn on. Black ones have a loop sewn on for wrist cord.

Trade you a pair for a beer if you pick em up in Burlington. I'll ship you a pair for $12.

@jdejace I pmed you for a pair of the xxl blacks if you still gotem! Also wondering if anyone has any experience with using these on multiday trips or removing the liner and wearing a fleece glove in there? Wondering if people have been able to keep them dry for a longer trip/ if you use two pairs in this situation?  Also interested in how bad the dexterity is if you remove the liner and wear a fleece glove...

I don't own a pair of the black ones, but on the blue ones the liner is not designed to be removable, you may have to cut it off. The dexterity would probably get worse with what you suggest.

There the rest are already like nitrile or protective gloves. If you look closely, you can see the unusual sheen of the film on the bare fabric. I had one of those https://harmonycr.com/gloves-and-finger-cots/disposable-gloves/nitrile-gloves/. If you guess, you can get to specific gloves. Huh, I remember mixing mine up and going to the chemistry lab wearing them instead of taking them to the cafe (eating burgers with my hands). I then switched with a man and he measured my palm in front of me and divided by 2.54 and round up the result. So one pair of those three I guessed.

What?
