Chalk: Magnesium Carbonate (MgCO3) vs Magnesium Hydroxy Carbonate (light/heavy)

Hi everyone.

I'm relatively new to climbing and while searching for chalk products I came across this "Light/Heavy magnesium carbonate" (which Wikipedia describes as an hydroxy). Of course these are not the same chemicals as Magnesium carbonate, but I haven't found any posts yet about whether these are useful in climbing or not.

Do you have any experience with Light/heavy magnesium carbonate? Or with other chemicals other than MgCO3?

Most American chalk brands (Metolius, etc.) are just magnesium carbonate (unsure as to the exact hydrated form, brands don't specify on their products), while most European chalk brands (Mammut, Petzl, etc.) are the magnesium hydroxy carbonate version (light magnesium carbonate).

Both versions work just fine for climbing, the hydroxy carbonates are a bit more harsh on your skin. (I prefer the hydroxy carbonates FWIW)

Some liquid chalk brands also include benzoin in their formulations...
