Vantage/index offwidth suggestions?
|
Hey all, Looking to get better at my off width style. Pulley injury makes it the perfect time to improve my blue collar climbing. I would love suggestions! Thanks in advance! |

In Too Deep and The routes to the left of it on sunshine wall was pretty off-width like. I had a hold break off on me on one of these. Not sure the wide cracks get climbed that often. Steel Grill is also kind of burly, but protects with smaller gear. Index has a few easier climbs with some wide. The awkward flares are interesting too. Battered Sandwich and chasing the lizard have some wide sections. The chimney on Aries works too. Trout Creek has a few good wide cracks too. Hope you heal fast! |

Trout Creek is the spot to go for wide splitters. Index wide cracks are short and Vantage wide cracks have so many face features that you rarely have to use the crack. Leavenworth has carnival crack but that’s about it. Although since you asked for index, Behind the Eightball is a very stout 10a corner that goes from baggy #4s to a #5 size roof. |

Blue Autumn at Vantage is fun - stay in the crack for the full experience |

Thanks for the suggestions! |

Private Idaho and Rattletale area at Index both have wide cracks, depending on your hand size. First pitch of Lizard (Index) is short and wide. At Vantage, Pony Keg and Air Guitar both have sections of blue #3 and #4 camalot, which is offwidth for people with small hands. George and Martha has a offwidth top section in the 4 to 5 range. Also at Vantage, someone already mentioned Steel Grill. It's a great exercise in offwidth as you have to climb up into pods where a chicken wing or reachy fist jam is your only option. In addition to a regular rack, I took four #3's and two #4's and wished I'd had more. Super fun and safe. |
