What grade would an ibex comfortably climb?

Got into a weird argument with some guy about mountain goats after telling him that there is nothing in the world a mountain goat could climb that SOME human would not also be able to. Showed him the vid of Randall and Whittaker doing Century Crack and his response was that a goat would find a different way to do it (uhhhh?)

He had me watch this vid and I said it looked like a decent beginner route with boring features.

So, yeah...I'm not trolling here, but generally wondering what grade a wild mountain goat could reliably climb without you know, falling to it's death. We as climbers know that there aint no mountain goat gonna get the 2nd ascent on Silence, so with all that comes in between...what do you think a typical mountain goat would be able to onsight free solo?

I've seen goats at the top of peaks in the Cascades that have mandatory 5.6 moves. I've seen them climb up some pretty amazing things, they can jump about 8' vertically past blank sections to unbelievably small ledges.

I saw a young mountain goat climb a .10d slab route before. We had scared it up a draw, and I guess it thought that was the best way out. Just happened to also be a route in the book. The goat did a terrible job placing protection, though.

Somewhere there’s an old picture of a mountain goat on legit 5.9 terrain on Mt. Proboscis in Canada. I remember it being an old guidebook photo with the caption being something like “Goat on pitch X (5.9)”

I think it was a couple pitches up lol

I think the style of climbing matters here. For slab I think they would do pretty well, I dont know if I would have much faith in them climbing anything overhanging.

Nobody mentioned that they are free soloing. Just like the guy from that movie.

yeah I think they are gonna crush anything less than vertical and get shut down on anything steeper.

An Ibex could definitely flash Silence

In Sardinia we found goat shit on ledges that could only be reached by way of 5a or 5b slab. I’m more curious as to how they get down.

If there is one thing to be learned from tiger king it’s that anyone with heart beat can own any animal. So who wants to buy one?

We crowdsource the cost of a mountain goat and take turns teaching it to climb hard in our preferred style. Who's in?

It's all fun and games until the eagles show up.

I think we could all learn some lessons from the goat.

We think we teach the goat but the goat teaches us. Although we might need to teach it how to hip belay.

How hard has anyone seen / heard of a dog climbing? I read a blog post a while back about a dog that climbed Baruntse, maybe with a little bit of a helpful belay on some really steep ice. But what about on rock?

Apparently, the dog Biscuit did several FA's including the off-with Publicity Hound-static, D8+ on the Dog Scale :-)
(I had to rewatch my Return2Sender DVD to find out)

So since u specified flash instead of onsite then getting beta matters?

No matter the grade, at least the goats don’t humble brag about it on the prodge afterward.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
