Kailus Up new climbing fashion line. Amazing stuff
|
Because I subscribe to Kailas emails (for Nuco information and the like, from when they were selling the Kailas-branded Totems), I just got something amazing in my inbox. Kailas is releasing a hot new climbing culture fashion line! The two accompanying images in the e-mail were simply too amazing to not share. Here they are, in all their glory: I'm sorry the image isn't bigger, but you can click on it to see so many amazing things. The first thing I noticed is that the female climber has a fanny pack strapped around her neck, which as we know is a great way to suffer a major head injury if you fall and something around your neck gets snagged. Looking further, she has a quickdraw strapped on for toproping (or perhaps just sport rappel-lowering). Socks in the climbing shoes. But most amazing is the yellow rope joined to a purple rope using electrical tape tied to a gear loop. The gentleman is bouldering with a quickdraw (and presumably a harness) while decked out in fashion that would be right at home on Ali G. Hey, at least they got the beanie on the boulderer correct. Who's going to be the first to show up to the crag in their new Up Multi-pocket Vest (Unisex)? It even seems to come with a built-in keychain carabiner. All for only $123. This is what climbing needed. |

Cool stuff! These clothes will go well with the climbing-inspired handbags.

I feel old. I have no idea what any of this is. |

Is this a joke? Tell me it’s a joke. I can’t process this as reality. |

Well, considering how The North Face has collaborations with Supreme and other outdoor/technical features of apparel have been coopted by high fashion, this is probably not a joke. And probably extremely expensive for a non-joke. |

Only the best and most fashion! Full disclosure I've done photos for Kailas and regret nothing. I actually love their pants. Here's some more gems from their website. Kailas, if you happen to see this PM me. I'd be psyched to wear any of this (will trade photos for energy force). What kind of "Energy Force" are we advertising here?!Brilliant, I've always wanted a shirt pocket big enough to fit a rack of cams in it! Astronaut playing a guitar throwing up devil horns for the sake of climbing? Hell yeah! Space is aid. |

Haha kailas is like the biggest outdoor gear company in china. They make some funny shit like this but also some really legit gear, a lot of helmets and ice tools and gore tex jackets etc. Also distribute the basic totems rebadged. My partner bought some slings and the material felt weird and loose, i did not love them. I've been looking at their stick clip, think i might get one. |

Why is the quickdraw the go-to thing for any marketing agency who knows zero about climbing, but wants to make a model look climb-ey? |

So it depends on the number of clothes you want to sell. It is expensive to promote fashionable things because you never know if people will like them. For small batch clothing production, you can already jump start with $500. If you are thinking of a medium-sized clothing company then $1,500 up to $5,000 should be sufficient enough. However, if you are thinking of a major clothing business then $20,000 to $50,000 is a perfect investment amount. The best way of advertising is to buy time or stories from Instagram fashion bloggers because a lot of people listen to their opinion. |

I’m not gonna lie. They kinda had me on their NASA collab line. But that’s probably because I’m a giant nerd whose favorite hang as a kid was the DC air and space museum, haha! My favorite thing from the first photo is the tape job for the boulderer. TAPE THOSE KNUCKLES! Having spent a lot of time in China, I totally get how this stuff is gonna go wild. It’s hilarious to us, but this kind of fashion is so popular there. Lifestyle phrases that make no sense with crazy colors and images. Yup. |

No doubt Kailas is one of the leading brands in China, but if guys have a chance to choose your favorite climbing suit then what will you do? Do you prefer Kailas to other top-quality brands? |
|
No I do not. I have a couple pairs of pants that were half price, and while they're ok, they are certainly not as good as most other specialized brands. |

No one commented on how much too loose the harness is |
