What do you personally use to wrap above the grip on your ice tool?

Electrical tape seems to be the standard, but i've heard of people using golf or tennis grip tape. I heard about wrapping it first in duct tape then electrical. I'm curious if anyone has any good ideas they use. It is all about what works for you so let me know what does?

Not usual electrical tape per se, but thicker rubberized tape.

Provides good grip and insulation - holds up well; photo is several years old.

Tennis racket grip is light, robust, and very grippy.

Scotch 2228 as pictured earlier. Good insulation, great grip.

I used climber’s tape for about 4 inches above the lower handle, then super glued the edges of the climber’s tape to keep it from shifting or unwrapping.

tried hocky tape/cloth type tape but snow caked up on it pretty bad so removed it. I bet electrical tape or something more rubberized would be better

Temflex. Widely available, works well. The author of Coldthistle write that there was something similar but even stickier. I've never felt the need for something else.

When I’ve done it I used hockey tape.

Has anyone that has ever used a bike tube ever gone back to anything else?

I've used every kind of rubberized tape there was, and I find that a bike tube is grippier and lasts way longer. It's counterintuitive because one would think that something with an adhesive backing like rubberized tape would not slide down and be better, but my experience has been I need to replace the rubberized tape after every few days, where the bike tube lasts a long time - a bike tube is much more durable

The key with a bike tube is wrapping really tightly, sticking the head of the tool in the vise to be able to really stretch the tube around it as a useful trick.

Here's a decent how to video about wrapping with a bike tool.

The one thing I would add is after you cut the bike tube in half it's best to wash off any talcum powder (or whatever the powder is) on the tube so it's grippier.

One comment, if one wraps top down then one has series of steps that bite into one's glove. And the more overlap the more steps one has.

Doing  solo  laps on a 50ft  road cut.  Top out  of the last lap  was scary  soft unfrozen mud.

It really depends on what you plan to use it for.

I prefer low-texture rubber (mastic tape, bike tube, plasti-dip), when there may be icing issues.  Otherwise, I prefer tennis racket overgrip.  Athletic tape is generally nice to have on spots where you expect to bite down on the shaft.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
