I'm moving to BC october 25th and I want to get into the ice climbing scene. I need partners and places to go. What's the scoop? Who do I talk to? Taking the winter off so I'll have plenty of free time.

Saying "BC" is like saying you're moving to Europe. The province is huge and has mountains/climbing everywhere. Give us some specifics!

I'm planning to move to Abbotsford, but I don't have a permanent residence so I'll try and find somewhere to stay with the best partner availability. I won't have a job so I can travel.

Really the best place in BC for ice is probably Golden... you can climb in Field and the rest of the Rockies from there. It will be more reliable than anything on the coast.

If you're interested in ice on the coast then you'll want to check the Facebook group West Coast Ice (though it hasn't had much past gear sales lately, there are people there who know what's up), and Cascadeclimbers.com where numerous updates to the guidebook have been posted and occasional conditions info. There are probably other places folks post conditions that I don't know of. Most of the known ice climbing in SW BC is in the areas around Lillooet and Pemberton. Obviously there is alpine stuff too but those conditions are fickle as well.

Good luck!

West Coast Ice group on the facebooks is where you'll find most of the SW BC ice climbers. But, as said above, Golden is the best place in the province if you're actually looking to get a season in.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
