Ice climbing in Pennsylvania?
|
Somewhat novice to ice climbing. Have been a few times in Colorado and Washington on top rope. Looking to find some decent spots and some people to tag along with for the winter |
|
Not my game, but as far as locations: ricketts glen, glen onoko (I think), the narrows, lots of the state game lands in the northern half of the state, etc. There are lots of potential spots but the winters have been pretty iffy to last couple of years from my understanding. |
|
Appreciate it everyone. I'll take all the info I can get. Would be even willing to make a run to the Adirondacks if anyone could point me in the right direction |

go at night, when it's cold and the rangers aren't looking for idiots. seek hiking websites advertising 'waterfalls' |

The Griz Guide for Pennsylvania has all you need. Any other spots are a closely held secret due to what Ian said. If it's in, we don't want a packed house. |

I'm hoping you were able to get out this weekend. |

I live in northeast PA and have been climbing smaller less known local routes for the past couple years. I saw the Griz a guide book mentioned here which is a decent resource. 2021 has been one of the best seasons we had so far. Other resources you want to reference, check out my blog at: https://outdooradventure325910149.wordpress.com/ i have two local climbs in detail with beta for you to check out In the northeast. Also visit www.hikebikeclimb.net A climber I never met named Dave Seaholtz runs it and fellow climbers in PA like myself contribute to climbing spots and ice conditions. Hope this helps. |
