I know this is kinda like asking you to predict the future, but does anyone know what EPC might look like for New Year's? Do locals expect there to be crowds? Will restaurants/hostels/etc be open?

I would expect it to be busy but obviously not as busy as usual due to Covid. I was there for three weeks from late September to mid October and the park was completely deserted on weekdays but the season doesn't begin until November. Restaurants and hostels/campgrounds seemed to be 100% open. Mask wearing wasn't really a thing there outside of supermarkets.

Where's the cheapest place to park my van

They are plenty of spots in the area where you can park your van for free but if you are looking to use a kitchen, showers and wifi then you can check out Rancho El Sendero since they have a decent sized parking lot. They'll probably charge you the camping rate which is 200 pesos ($9.50) a night. Every 10th night is free there.

New Years at EPC is an absolute shit show in a good or bad way??

Just a busy time in the canyon, lots of sketchy shenanigans happening, huge gumbyfest.  Parties at Homeros & Leos are great, but climbing for that one to two week period is definitly limited for me so I dont have to witness all the new climbers do their first multipitch & epic on Snot Girlz

Do you remember what Rancho El Sendero's camping/hostel/private room prices were? I asked them but they didn't tell me.

Camping is $200 a night and a hostel bed is $300 a night. Not sure as to what the price of a private room is. They also have a small house that can be rented.

Where is the thread about the owner of a food / margarita food truck at EPC who was drugging and raping women?

All of the route names being redacted due to hurtful language that may harm people is a good start, no room for racism or sexism here. But what about actual physical harm and danger?

Shouldn't we also be proactively trying to protect people from actual harm and danger, harm and danger that is not just  hurtful words but is hurtful actions? Can this community also be "woke" enough to remind people that there is a rapist who roofies women at EPC?

Just wondering.

Yeah, of course, and you can just share that info without questioning if the community is woke enough, or bringing up route names. It's not controversial to say rapists are bad.

That thread is still there, I was just looking at it the other day... not sure why you would think it was gone.

Planning a trip to EPC by car from NY in January. Based on all the comments it sounds like crossing the border and access to the area are not a problem. Would love to hear if anyone experiences any difficulties.

Leo & James, what the hell are you 2 even arguing about? I'm not even sure if either of you made a point yet...

Had to cut 4 meters off my 70m rope. Do I need to take a tag line now or can I still do all of the rappels with a 66m rope?

That's going to depend heavily on which route you're rapping from. Please do your research.

We hope to cross the border at Laredo around the end of January (2021) and spend the month of February at EPC. It's not the cheapest, but it is close and quiet and safe - so we plan to park our van at Quinta La Pogoda ( quintalapagoda.com). They have a big outdoor kitchen, showers, bathrooms and wi-fi.

If you would like to caravan across, let us know! If you would like to do some climbing @ EPC, let us know! We spent several weeks there last year, so we are pretty good and finding our way aournd..!

Are you all still in EPC? A friend and I are driving down from Austin this weekend and would love to get any beta on driving down/ current conditions from you! We’re planning on staying at la posada.
