The Flatirons Climbing Council (FCC) in conjunction with the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) is conducting a volunteer trail project this month on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22.The project will encompass building a new climber access trail to Overhang Rock from Bear Canyon. Come join the community in making a difference in the Flatirons, one of Boulder’s iconic climbing destinations.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions we have to limit the number of volunteers to eight (8) total each day.

Volunteers will work along side with the OSMP trail crew and FCC members to delineate and construct a more direct approach through the talus to the base of the crag. Each day we will start at 10am and work until 3pm. We are asking volunteers to meet at the junction of Bear Canyon and Overhang Rock before 10am. This work will be mostly off trail and requires an ability to manage oneself on varied and steep terrain. OSMP will provide all tools but we ask that you bring work gloves and eye protection.

Due to restrictions associated with Covid-19 we are not able to provide food, snacks or drinks for this event, but everyone will get a Flatirons Climbing Council t-shirt for volunteering. Waivers for all participants need to be completed online in advance of the event at the time of registration. In addition, a short online course on Covid-19 safety is required before registering for the event.

So far we only have three volunteers sign up for this event.  We need your help as this is a way to secure climbing access.  This work will result in a designated/official trail to the crag.  As per the new OSMP Master Plan, eliminating undesignated trails is a priority within the Flatirons.
